Tips on Setting Up FTP Connection with FileZilla

FileZilla is one of the best FTP clients, which helps you to manage users of your website and to define the parameters of their access to your data. Setting up FTP Connection with FileZilla is not very difficult. In below, we developed a step by step guide with screenshots, so that you don’t face any configuration issues  while connecting to the server.

Once the FileZilla FTP client is installed, you need to launch it and follow the below steps:

Step 1:

Go to the File menu and choose Site Manager from the drop-down list.

Step 2:

A new window will be opened with several options. Here, you need to click on the New Site button to configure the new server connection.

Step 3:

After clicking the New Site button, go to the “General” tab and you must need to know the following configuration settings before you connect to the server.

Parameters needed to be set:

Here, the configuration parameters are mentioned that you will need to put so that you can connect to the server successfully. Make sure that they are put correctly before you connect to the server.

  • Host: the Ip of the server
  • Port: 21
  • Protocol: FTP- File Transfer Protocol
  • Encryption:  Use plain FTP
  • Logon Type: Normal

Note that the User & Password would be the same that you created for FTP account in your control panel.

Step 4:

Then, click to the Transfer Settings tab, switch the transfer mode from Default to Active and click Connect.

Setting Up FTP Connection with FileZilla 5Note: If you are the facing “Failed to retrieve directory listing issue” while connecting to the server and unable to connect to the server, then you need to switch the Active Mode to Passive Mode and try connecting again. Hope it will work fine.
